Traveling with Golf Clubs on southwest?
so I’m going to my dads house in about a month. he lives 8 hours away and I wanna go Golfing with him. so long story short, I’ll be flying southwest. the southwest website said that I can check in my clubs FOR FREE( 
) as a replacement for a suitcase as long as it meets these requirments: Golf bag in hard-sided golf bag carrying case provided by Passenger, including clubs, balls, and shoes. Hooded Golf Bags or golf bags in a soft-sided carrying case provided by the Passenger will be conditionally accepted.
now see, my concern is that I don’t have money to go buy one of these hard or soft carrying cases. but I do know that my golf bag has this like cover thing that came with it and it goes over the heads of my clubs. now I’m wondering is this a “hood”? and will they let me check my clubs in with this cover thing on them? thank you:D
the “hood” you’re referring to that comes with most bags is a rain hood. It’s a simple zippered pullover that keeps rain out of your clubs when it’s wet outside. Depending on your type of bag they MAY let you check it with this on it, but I would not recommend this as protection to your clubs. there is no structure and if something lands on your clubs in that area you risk serious damage. While having a travel bag doesn’t GUARANTEE that nothing will happen, i do know that i’ve never had a problem with mine even with all the traveling i do. You can buy a decent travel case for cheap. Golf Galaxy has a soft case for 69.99 now. I know it seems like a lot but it’s actually cheap as far as travel bags go for clubs and will provide a lot more protection to your clubs than just putting the rain cover on them.
Some places have small “travel bags” that are basically hard plastic tubes with hard caps that are removable and that then becomes your bag. they’re about 8″ in diameter and can fit a full set of clubs. I’ve seen them for as little as $50 or possibly even cheaper if you can find it on sale.
